shared ministry team welcomes Emma Smith as WPA
Conference Media Resource Director

CRANBERRY TWP. — July.
19, 2005—The Rev.
Emma L. Smith, a local pastor and missionary serving as director
of the Center
for Hope at Fellowship UMC in
Ambridge,
has been selected as the new
director of the Conference Media Resource Center for the Western Pennsylvania
Conference of the United Methodist Church. She replaces Kim
Shockley, who is moving to Florida after serving
10  years
as
Center director and
member of the training and resource staff.
Emma was commissioned
in 2001 as a 10-10-10 missionary by the General Board of
Global Ministries, before that she worked in business for more
than 30 years.
She
held positions in customer service, training, and project and staff management
in
her native Texas and Georgia.
“I feel blessed
to have this opportunity to use my gifts and experience in
training and customer support to serve our churches as a part
of the Conference staff,” she
said. Smith came to Western PA five years ago with her husband,
the Rev. Fred Smith, a seminary professor of urban ministry, who
was appointed
as pastor
of Fellowship
Church.
As a missionary and
director of the Center for Hope, Emma has worked with
Fellowship’s
dedicated leaders to reach out to un-churched children and
families of
Ambridge and Aliquippa, bringing together church and community
resources to help meet educational, social and spiritual needs.
As
the new Media
Resource Director for WPAUMC,
Emma will be the point of contact for local churches and Conferences
interested in making the
Online
Sunday School
available to their children. "We are very excited
about the gifts, skills, and excitement Emma will bring to our
ministry. Rev.
Smith is the right person to help us further this ministry and
help connect the next generation with the Word!",
